Description
Tender cabbage leaves wrapped around a savory filling for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup beef broth
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Remove the core from the cabbage and blanch the leaves for 2-3 minutes until pliable.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Combine ground beef, cooked rice, sautéed onion and garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano in a bowl. Mix well.
- Place about 2 tablespoons of filling in each cabbage leaf. Roll up tightly and tuck in the sides.
- Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on the bottom of a large pot. Arrange the rolls seam-side down. Pour remaining sauce and beef broth over the rolls.
- Cover and simmer on low for about 45 minutes, or until the beef is cooked through.
Notes
Ensure cabbage leaves are softened enough to roll easily. Do not overfill the rolls; they need to be snug but not bursting.
