Colorful pinwheel sugar cookies that are sweet and festive, perfect for Halloween or any celebration.

- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Food coloring (your choice of colors)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla.
- Gradually add dry ingredients until fully combined.
- Divide dough into two parts. Color one half with your first choice of food coloring and the other half with a different color.
- Roll each colored dough between sheets of parchment paper into rectangles.
- Layer one rectangle on top of the other. Roll tightly into a log.
- Chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Slice the dough into rounds and place on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
Notes
Chill the dough well before slicing to maintain shape. Use gel food coloring for more vibrant swirls.
